Powell Cemetery Location: 7.8 miles west of Harper’s Home, Virginia, on Route #40; thence south 1 mile on private road. Dinwiddie County DATE: 1819, date of oldest grave. OWNERS: William B. Thompson, William F. Thompson, Macon D. White, and Earnest Elder. DESCRIPTION: The graveyard is about one-tenth of a mile southwest of the residence and comprises about an acre of land. It is enclosed by a rock wall and it has two wire gates. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following are inscriptions of the families for generations: To The Memory of Capt. William B. Thompson Born Feb. 15, 1779 Died April 12, 1845 His life presented an exemplary portrait of all the ennobly ingoirtures, his conduct was directed by true principals, first in his transactions, faithful to his friends, affectionate and devoted to his family, and a firm and devout believer in the Christian Religeon. Sacred To the memory of Ann Eliza Consort of Daniel G. Hatch Daughter of Wm. B. and Prudence Thompson Born Feb. 26, 1806 Died April 10, 1837 Leaving a husband and three children to mourn their irreparable loss. Pure and Holy in life Happy and triumphant in death.
