DINWIDDIE COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Traylor Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, The Winfield Traylor family graveyard: 1937 July 14 Research made by Dorothy Gray Pilout Cemetery Location: .4 mile from and on the north side of Butterwood Road, about .75 mile from the junction of Claiborne and Butterwood Roads and 3.5 miles south of Sutherland, Virginia. Dinwiddie County DATE: 1870, date on oldest marker. OWNERS: Mr. Cooper Gill lives on this place now. (1937) DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is located just behind the site of the old Traylor home. The plot is enclosed by a wire fence and there are holly and cedar trees growing here. There are several graves with markers, but are too late to be of interest. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The inscriptions are as follows: In Memory of Emmett Clarke Born Feb. 11, 1860 Died June 10, 1895 In Memory of Winfield J. Traylor Son of William & Nancy Traylor Born Nov. 6, 1831 Died Jan. 13, 1870 Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord Erected by his devoted wife The grave next to Winfield J. Traylor’s grave is that of his son, Sidney Traylor. It has no stone. The following graves have no stones. James Gates and Molly DeShazo his wife. Miss Alice Gates, a daughter of James and Molly Gates Mr. and Mrs. Spain, parents of Mr. Oakley Spain who now lives in Petersburg, Virginia, on Washington Street. Several children of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Munford SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informants: Mrs. T.A.
