Chandler TO: Deed of Trust Mary A. Chandler Trust An indenture made and entered into this ? day of March in the year of Christ One Thousand eight hundred forty eight, between Benjamin B Chandler of the first part , Lorenzo D. Harmon of the second part and Mary A. Chandler , the wife of the said Benjamin B Chandler of the third part. All the parties being of the County of Dinwiddie and the state of Virginia. Witnesseth, that the said Benjamin B. Chandler for and in consideration of the ?? and of the natural love and affection which he bears to his wife Mary A Chandler and her children, as well as for the further consideration of one dollar to him the said Benjamin B Chandler in turn paid by the said Lorenzo D Harmon at and before the ?? and delivery of these presents the recipt of which is hereby acknowledged he the said Benjamin B Chandler hath given, granted bargained and sold conveyed transferred and made over and doth by these presents give grant bargain and sell convey and confirm transfer and make over to the said Lorenzo D Harmon, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns the following real and ?? property. ? All his interest in one certain tract of land lying and being in the County of Dinwiddie, containing one hundred acres of land more or less. For the boundaries of which reference is hereby made to a deed of bargain and sale made by Thomas Traylor bearing date the 20th day of June 1839. And duly recorded in the Clerk's office of Dinwiddie County Court on the 16th day of September. To Mary A Traylor, which deed was made before her inter-marriage with the aforementioned Benjamin B Chandler, one negro woman Hannah and her future increase, one horse, one cow and calf, three feather beds and furniture, one bureau, two tables, one chest, three trunks, ten chairs, two guns, all the residue of my household and kitchen furniture, all my plantation utensils of every kind and ?? whatsoever. All the provisions that I have on hand at the present time consisting of corn, fodder, B?? and all the crop that I am preparing to make for the present year on the plantation belonging to my father William Chander whereon I non-reside. Nine barrels of corn that the said Lorenzo D. Harmon will be moving the said BB Chandler when his crop for the present year is matured. Which said corn is for the rent of a part of the land whereon the said Chandler now resides. And also six barrels of corn that one William Royall will be ?? the said Chandler when his crop for the present year is matured which said six barrels is for the rent of another part of the last mentioned land. To have and to hold to him the said Lorenzo D. Harmon, his executors, administrators and assigns forever the aforesaid tract of land and appurtenances and personal property. In trust nevertheless that the said Lorenzo D. Harmon or his representatives hereby authorized to act, shall and do permit the said Mary A Chandler, wife of the said Benjamin B Chandler, to be and remain in quiet and peaceable possession of the property hereby conveyed, and take the rents, hires, and profits thereof to her own separate use and that of her aforesaid children. So that the same may not be at the disposal of, or subject to the control, debts, forfeitures, contracts, or liabilities of any description of her said husband the said Benjamin B Chandler. And from and after the death of her, the said Mary A Chandler, then upon this further trust, that the said Lorenzo D. Harmon, or his representatives aforesaid, shall and do convey, transfer, and assign the land and other property hereby conveyed together with the increase thereof, or so much as may remain of said property and said increase, in as full and ample manner as the same is now conveyed to the said Harmon, to any person or persons whom the said Mary A Chandler, wife of the said Benjamin B. Chandler, shall by any writing under her hand and seal attested by three credible witnesses, or by her last will and testimony (not withstanding her ??attested by a like number of ?? direct ?? on appoint and in default of such appointment or direction, then to the heirs at law of the said Mary A Chandler. And the said Benjamin B. Chandler for himself and his heirs, does hereby covenant to and with the said Lorenzo D. Harmon, his executors, administrators, et al that he the said Benjamin B. Chandler is proprietor of the said land, have and other property hereby conveyed and will warrant and forever defend the same against all persons claiming title to the same by through or under him, the said Benjamin B. Chandler but no further. In testament whereof the said Benjamine B. Chandler and Lorenzo D. Harmon have hereto set their hands and affix their seals the date first above written. Bejamin B.
