The submitter has given permissionto the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection Miles, Joseph (Joab) Pen. 286 1786-1819 Soldier-2nd Virginia Regiment Dinwiddie County--Sussex County November 1786: Joseph alias Joab Miles a pensioner appeared before the Court and by the oath of Butler Roseborne and John Cole proved to the satisfaction of the Court that the said Miles belonged to the 2nd Regiment and with company of said regiment in the service of the United States was that he was disabled while in the service of the said service--that he is about 32 years old and an inhabitant of the County. Copy Teste: Nicholas C D C I do certify that upon examining Joseph alias Joab Miles that I find him in the same blind condition who has been for several year and incapable of following any business to get his living. Signed: James Greenway I do with the advice of the Council hereby certify that Joseph alias Joab Miles, aged about 32 years, late a private in the 2nd Virginia Regiment appears to have been disabled in such a manner while in the service of the United States as to entitle him to the sum of 12 pounds yearly; which allowance is accordingly made him to commence from the first day of January 1786. Given under my hand as Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, at Richmond, this 5th day of December 1786.
