WILL OF DUNCAN ROSE OF DINWIDDIE COUNTY, VIRGINIA Filed in Shelby County, Kentucky Will Book 4, Pp. 318-322 In the name of God Amen I Duncan Rose of the County of Dinwiddie being I this present hour in better health than I have been for a few years past Reflecting on the vicissitudes of human life how Soon many of my acquaint___ who are Studyind daily to acquire wealth that they do not live to enjoy are snatched off this stage and that there is a very great probalbility of its being my fate soon I do make this my last will and testament. In pimis, I constitute and appoint John Banister Neill Buckhannon John Long and nephew Duncan Rose Executors of this my lst will and testament. I desire that all my estate both Real and personal may be disposed of as soon as and upon as Short Credit as my Exe's may think proper to Satisfy all my Just debts both in Britain and Virginia or elsewhere with interest from the time they became due- My By Boy Stephen and venus Excepted to whom I give their freedom. I give to each of my Executors fifty pounds- I give and bequeath to my lovely god Daught[er] Mary Ann Banister one hundred pounds- I give to John Banister Jun' Theo__ B. Banister Robert Munford Banister and John Munroe Banister Fifty pounds each as Rememberence of my sincere friendship for their family where I spent my best days- I give and bequeath to M. Andrew Buckannon and M. David Buckannon Two hundred Guineas to each of them and their heirs I give the heirs of M. David Daly ell two hundred guineas as the tutors or executors may think proper to divide the same The remainder of my Estate I give and Bequeath To my nephew Duncan Rose and request of him to bestow Such Share of it as he minks proper to my Brother Thomas Rose in Inverness North Britain and also to his sisters and their children I would recommend to my Executor Duncan Rose to remit my Brother Thomas Rose fifty Pounds Sterling when he finds it convenient after paying my Just Debts and the foregoing legacies this is my lst will and testament written with my hand and Sealed with my Seal this first day of January one thousan Seven hundred and eighty five. Nicholas T [?] Harris [The will was proved in Dinwiddie County on 3 December 1785, having been presented in court by Duncan Rose, John Banister and Neill Buckanan, three of me Executors, and proven by John Nicholas, a witness and by the oath of Roger Atkinson, Francis Muir to he the handwriting of said Rose. Ordered to be recorded. John Nicholas, Clerk of the County Court of Dinwiddie, certified that the foregoing was a true copy of the will. He signed it 12 August 1812.
