Wills No. 12 1762-1775 Written: May 17, 1767 Recorded: November 16, 1767 ESSEX CO., VA WILLS NO. 12, 1762-1765 WILLIAM DUNN WILL In the name of God Amen I William Dunn of the parish of South Farnham in the County of Essex being in my perfect sences and memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same I do appoint and ordain this my Last Will and Testament making void and disanuling all other Wills and Testaments heretofore made by me Imprimosses(?) I commit my body to the Ground from whence it was first taken to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned. 2d. I commend my Spirit to God that gave it me hoping that thru the merrits (?) of God in Christ Jesus that I shall be partaker of eternal happiness and as for Temporal estate which it hath pleased God to endow me withal I bequeath in form following. 3d. I lend my son Waters Dunn the three negroes I bought at his sale Viz. Lilley, Joe and Tom during(?) the time as their orders and his advantage others may discharge several debts he now owes (Viz.) Ninian Boage, John Burnett, John Latney and James Griffing and after such debts discharged I give the above negroes and their increase to him and his heirs for ever but in case he should die before the abovesaid debts should be discharged my will is that his wife Sarah Dunn may have the use of them during her widowhood to bring up his Children _____ after marriage only one third part during her natural Life and after her death to be equally divided amongst his Children. 4th. I give and bequeath to my Son William Dunn all my Land together with any improvements thereon that I live on – also I give him my part of the Will now between my Brother Thomas Dunn and myself all to be recd at the death of my death of my wife and to his heirs for ever. 5th. I give to my daughter Cady Edmondson one Shilling Sterling. 6th. I give to my daughter Winifred Jones one Shilling Sterling. 7th. I give to my daughter Mary Greenhill one Shilling Sterling. 8th. All the rest of my estate after my just debts are paid I leave to be equally divided between my Son Henry Dunn and my daughter Alice Dunn after the death of my wife. 9th and Lastly. I do constitute and appoint my loving wife my whole & sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my Seal this seventeenth day of May in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and sixty Seven. Witnesses Wm. Dunn L.S. This Last Will and Testament of William Dunn deceased was presented in Court by the Executrix herein named who made oath herein according to Law and being proved by James Edmondson one of the Witnesses as to the Slaves and personal Estate herein devised. Ordered to be Recorded. The Court is of the opinion that the Testimony of Thomas Dunn a witness to the Testators republishing of this will is unnecessary(,) it is therefore ordered that it be continued for further proof as to Lands and Tenements herein devised.
