Will of Thomas Hines, 1699 - Essex Co. VA dated 16 7ber 1699, proved 10 Nov 1699 Essex County VA Deeds & Wills 1699-1701 Bk 10, pp 16-17. IN YE NAME OF GOD Amen I Thomas Hines of Essex County being sicke and weake in body but of perfict sence and memory thankes be to God doe make this my last Will and Testament in manner as follows. Imprimi: I bequeath my Soule to Almighty God who gave itt mee in sure and certaine hopes of salvation through ye merritts of my blesssed Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ and my body to ye Earth to be buried in such Christian like manner as my Deare Wife shall see fitt. Item. I give and bequeath unto my Son, Thomas Hines one hundred and fifty acres of land dureing ye terme of his naturall life and after his decease I doe will and bequeath ye sd hundred and fifty acres of land to be equally divided betweene my two Sons, Henry and John Hines to them and theire heires forever ye sd land lying on ye West side of White Marsh from my dweling house. Item. I give unto my Sone, Thomas Hines, one man Serv ant five yeares to serve and one feather bed and furniture, two Milch cows and calves, one young mare that came of my Sorrell Mare last and one gray Ston Horse about three years old, one iron pott, one pewter dish, two Milke trayes and halfe dozen spoons, my sword and pistall and all my Coopers tools. Item. I give & bequeath unto my Son, Thomas Hines two breeding sows, two barrows of two yeares old and all my wearing cloathes all ye above sd (except ye Land) I give unto my sd Thomas Hines to him and his heires forever. Item. It is my will and desire that my said Son, Thomas Hines, doe stay with my Wife and assist to finish this present cropp and when so don I do will and appoint unto my sd Son, Thomas Hines, one equal share of ye sd Cropp both Indian Corne and tobacco. Item. I give unto my Son, Thomas, one large new chest and doe hereby make him my said Son Thomas of full age. Item. I give and bequeath unto my two sons, Henry Hines and John Hines, all that parcell of land I now dwell on to be equally divided betweene them and their heires for ever. After my Wifes decease, I doe give and bequeath all ye rest of my Estate, cattle, horses, mares, sheep, hoggs and all my household goods to be equally divided betweene my dear Wife, Hannah Hines, and my Five Children begotten of her to them and their heirs fore ever. Item. I doe appoint my dearely and well beloved Wife, Hannah, to be my whole and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament. Item. I nominate and appoynt my two good friends, Daniel Dobyns and Mr. Daniel Whitehorne to be my feoffees in Trust of ye same. Justices of ye peace for ye said County of Essex in ye sum of Forty thousand Pounds of tobacco and caske we bind ourselves this 10th day of 9:ber Anno Dom: 1699. The Condition of this obligation is that if Hannah Hines who at Court held for Essex County ye day and yeare abovesd: obtained a Probate of ye last Will of Thomas Hines deced, shall at all times hereafter fulfill ye sd: Will and satisfie all such Legatees as therein are expressed and do whatsoever ye Law enjoynes in such cases then ye above obligation to be void otherwise to remaine of full force.
