Essex Co., VA Will of Thomas Leeman 1758 Essex County Will Book 11 Page 81 In the name of God amen the Twentyth Day of March in the year of our lord one thousand Seven hundred and fifty Eight. I Thomas Leeman of Essex County being sick and weak of body, but of Perfect memory thanks be to Almighty God therefore Commend the mortality of my Body and Acknowledge that it is Appointed for all Men ?, do make this my Lawt Will and Testament, that is to way first and Principally and recomend my Soul into the hands of God that faveit, and for my Body I Recomend the Earth to be Buried in aChristian like manner at the Discretion of my Executor. Doubting but at the General Resurection I shall Receive the same again by the mighty of God and as to my Worldly Estate which it hath pleased God to Bless me with, I give of the same in the following manner and form. ?, it is my Will & Desire my just Debts be paid out of my Estate Item, I give and bequeath unto my Beloved daughter Betty Leeman all my land to her and her heirs Lawfully begotten, then my Will is that, ? my said Daughter Betty should die without such heirs, then my Will is that, ? Pitts shall have one half and Joseph Pitts the other half of my Land to them and the heirs of their Bodys Lawfully begotten forever, and if Either of them die without such heirs the Survivor to have the other part of ? Land. Item my Will is that my Daughter Betty die before she marry or come of Age the Remainder of my Personal Estate I give to Thomas Pitts, Joseph Pitts, David Pits Youngest and Lunsford Pitts to be Equally Divided amongst them Item my will is that Daughter shall be Decently brought up by ? and to be Learnd to Read and write and to be of Age at Sixteen years Old. Item I give Elizabeth Ramsey four punds Currant money in Consideration of her working for me from Last Christmas till now. Item it is my will that the Law Suit I have wagainst my mother in llaw about her Right of Dower of my Land now Depending and the Law Suit against Edward Ronzee?, and the Petition that Peter Leeman has against me be all brought to Tryal and that whatever Cost that shall come against my Estate by the said Suits my Executors shall pay out of my Estate. Item it is my will that if upon Tryal of law suit between my mother in law and me it is ? by the Court that my land is Entaild on ? then my heirs or Executors shall break the intail according to Law and make amends as with a General Warranty to Caleb Lindsey for the part he bought of me out of it provided the Caleb Lindsey pays if Required what Costs will Ensue on the Braking the intail Item, it is my will that if my mother in Law Costs me in the said Suit that I may appeal to the General Court at the Discretion of my Executors. Item I give my waring apparl to Thomas Pitts at his Discrection. Deceased Item I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Leman one negro girl named ? be delivered to her at the day of marriage and ? to be my said Daughter Elizabeth should die before marriage that then I give & Bequeath the said negro girl to my Beloved wife Francis Leeman during her life and after her death to my son Joseph Leeman and his heirs Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Leeman one negro Woman names Tillis? and her increase after the decease of my Beloved Wife Frances Leeman Item I leve all my personal Estate to my Beloved wife Frances Leeman during her life and after her Decease to be Equally Divided Between my three youngest Children Viz: Joseph Leeman, Elizabeth Leeman, & Sarah Leeman last by I nominate & appoint my beloved wife Frances Leeman and my Beloved son Peter Leeman Executors of this my Last Will and Testament in Testimony where of I have hereunto put my hand and seal this 25th day of October 1753 his Signed Sealed & Delivered Joseph E.
