Will of Margaret Micou, 1740 - Essex Co., Virginia 



In the Name of God Amen I Margaret Micou being sick and weak but of Sound & perfect memory do 
make ordain & Constitute this my Last Will and Testament in manner following Vizt 

Imp. I give and bequeath to my Son, Paul Micou all my Right and Title to and in the following 
Slaves viz Jo a Mulatto man, his wife and her four Sons Charles, David, Achilles & Ben, Jack 
and Judey his wife Peg, Ralph, Nanny the Daughter of Judy as also the Hogs and Cattle on the 
plantation where I now live, to him and his heirs forever. 

To my Daughters Margaret Fauntleroy & Mary the wife of Mr. Joshua Fry I leave each of them ten 
pounds Curr.t Money to be paid them by my Son Paul Micou out of the Produce of My Tobacco in 
his hands. 

To my Daughter Judith I give and bequeath my Chaise as also a piece of Gold now in her 
posession containing about Thirty pound. 

To my son Harry and his heirs forever I give and bequeath my Land at Pewmansend provided he 
allow my Daughter Judith's Negros to be worked there on Rent free untill She be married the 
part where they are to be worked to be appointed by my son Paul. 

To my Grandaughter Clara Micou the Daughter of John Micou I give and bequeath one Negro Girl 
named Sarah, the Daughter of Peg to her and heir heirs forever. 

Lastly to my Son Paul Micou I bequeath the Remainder of My Estate of what kind so ever And 
appoint him Exectutor of this my Last will and Testament In Witness whereof I have signed and 
Sealed the same December 16th 1740.

At a Court held for Essex County at Tappahannock on the 17th day of March 1740 [sic] This last 
Will and Testament of Margaret Micou decd being presented by Paul Micou the Executor therein 
Named was Proved by the Oath of Mungo Roy and Paul Scott two of theWitnesses thereto and 
Thereupon admitted to Record.
