FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Markers and Chappell Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Markers and inscriptions: 1937 Feb. 27 Research made by Haywood Cleveland McMullan In the Court House yard located .2 of mile west of Tysons Cross Road on Vienna Road there is a large rock with Bronze Plate bearing the following inscription: “From this spot No. 20” W. 220 ft. stood the first Court House of Fairfax Co. Built in 1742 Abandoned because of Indian Hostilities about 1752 Erected by Fairfax County Chapter Daughters of American Revolution.” There is a marker at Chantilly bearing the following: “Action of Oxen Hill. Stonewall Jackson reached Ox Hill (Chantilly) on Sept. 1st 1862 attempting to prevent Pope at Centreville from retracting to Alexandria. The Confederates came into contact with Union Troops and there followed a fierce action ended by storm & darkness Gen.
