The Sunday Times October 23, 1881
The Rev. John A. Kem, of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, at Alexandria, 
Va., has had a telephenic attachment fitted up to his pulpit, by means of 
which he preaches regularly to an invalid member of some distance away.  The 
communication is complete, and the lady hears the sermon distinctly and every 
part of the service as well.
