FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA - WILLS - George William West, 23 Jan 1857 ----¤¤¤---- Chancery Case FF 102DD Fairfax County, Virginia I, George W. West, of the County of Fairfax and State of Virginia, do make and declare this to be my Last Will and Testament hereby, revoking all other and former wills by me made. I give and bequeath unto my son, Arthur West, the house and lot where I now reside with all the land attached thereto on the east side of the Middle Turnpike Road, and a Negro girl named Ann Victoria. Also one feather bed and bedding. I give unto my daughter, Mary West, the upper end of the lot of land on the west side of the Middle Turnpike road adjoining the lot heretofore conveyed to my daughter, Eliza, and the land of B. Klock, to be laid off by a line commencing in Klock's line at a large white oak south of said Klock's gate and running due east to the Middle Turnpike, the lower end of said lot from the last mentioned line to S. Perkins south west line and line of this lot. I give to my grandson, Chs. Broadwater West, the son of James W. West. I give to my daughter, Mary, one Negro named Henry Clay and one feather bed and bedding. I give unto my grandson and son of my daughter, Jane, George Henry Horseman all my interest in a house and lot in the town of West End, Fairfax County. My household and kitchen furniture except the beds above given I will to remain in the house for the use of my son Arthur and daughter Mary. The wood lot lying on the railroad and adjoining the lands of Perkins, Barrett, Sewell, if not sold before my death, I will to be sold and the proceeds thereof applied to the payment of debts, the balance if any I give to my children Arthur and Mary. If my daughter Mary dies without legitimate offspring, my will and desire is that the property herein given to her shall descend to her daughter Catherine. The Negro girl and boy herein before given to my son Arthur and to my daughter Mary as also the Negro girl heretofore given to my daughter Eliza are to serve until they arrive to the age Twenty eight years and no longer. The property herein before given to my grandsons George Henry Horseman and Charles B. West should the said grandchildren or either of them die before arriving at adult age or without lawful issue, I will to the brothers and sisters of the said grandchildren. The residue of my Estate after paying my just debts and not herein before given, I will to my children, aforementioned, Mary and Arthur. Lastly I appoint James Hunter of Fairfax County, Executor of this my last will. In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this 23rd day of January 1857. Haycock In the County Court of Fairfax County, December Court 1871. The last will and testament of George W. West, was this day proved by the oath of George W. Haycock, a subscribing witness thereto and H.L. Lindsay, another subscribing witness to the said will being dead, the said George W. Haycock certified in open Court, that the signature of the said H.L. Lindsay was genuine and subscribed as a witness to the said will, in his presence and in the presence of the Testator, both being present at the same time and the said Testator acknowledged the said will to be his act, whereupon said will is admitted to probate and ordered to be recorded.
