Finley EMAIL: finleyc@sonoma.edu DATE: May 16, 1999 Benjamin McKnight Pension Application, Fauquier County, VA 30 August 1820 On this 30th day of August personaly appeared in open Court being a Court of record for the County of Fourquier in said district Benjamin McKnight aged sixty four years resident in such County in said district who being first duly sworn according to Law doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows: to wit That he the said Benjamin McKnight enlisted in the service of the United States in the Revolutionary War in August 1776 for the term of three years under Capt. Abraham Sheppard who was under the command of Col. Rollins in the Brigade of General Mercer that after the Capture of Fort Washington he was attached to the Rifle Regiment commanded by Col. Daniel Morgan that after the formation of Col D Morgan to Gen'l he served under Col William Butler in the company of Capt Gabriel Long during said service he was at the Capture of the Hessions at Trenton at the Battle of Princeton at the Capture of Gen'l Burgoine and under the command of Col Butler was at the burning of two Indian towns: on the Susquehanna and Oneida Lake that after the expiration of the said three years he served in the militia and was at the Capture of Lord Cornwallis that his former declaration was made before Judge Holmes he thinks in November 1818 and the number marked on his persion certificate 7380. And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby as to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled in act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contracts or debts due to me: now have any income other that what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed. Schedule---Real estate none---personal estate due me in open (?) from a deceased brothers estate about Eighty Dollars and Sixty cents his Benjamin x McKnight mark That as the said Benjamin has no family and lately has resided at the house of the before mentioned brother that his occupation is a labouring agricultist which he performs in much pain at times in consequence of a broken leg (necessity requiring the laborer) his Benjamin x McKnight mark Signed Sworn to and declared in Open Court on this 30th August 1820 Thos. C Kelly Dgl F.C.C. At a Court of Quarterly sessions Continued and held for Foruquier County the 30th August 1820 Benjamin McKnight a Revolutionary Soldier offered his declaration and schedule of property which being Sworn by the said Benjamin McKnight in open Court is ordered to be filed among the Records of the said County.
