Will Proved 22 Mar 1819 In the name of God Amen. I Edward Burgess of the County of Fauquier, being sick of body, but of sound disposing mind and memory do hereby make my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following that is to say First I desire that all my money which I may have on hand or due me shall be immediately applied to the payment of my just debts, and funeral expenses, and in case it should prove insufficient there shall be so much of the perishable part of my estate as shall be sufficient sold by my executors herein after named to pay the same. Second After the payment of my debts and funeral expenses. I give to my wife Sarah Burgess all my estate both real and personal for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease I give the same to my children herein after mentioned and to be enjoyed by them forever. Third I give to my son William Burgess the sum of forty pounds Virginia currency to be paid out of that part of my estate which I shall hereafter give to my (son) John Burgess to him or his heirs. Fourthly, I give to my son John Burgess negro Juday, Jean & Thomas and their increase to him and his heirs forever by paying to William Burgess the sum of forty pounds do before mentioned to Mason Burgess the sum of 40 pounds or his heirs and to Sarah Cornwell or her heirs the sum of forty pound Virginia currency. 5thly I do give to my daughter Nancy White, one negro girl Fillis and her increase to her and her heirs forever. 6thly. I give to my son Mason Burgess or his heirs the sum of 40 pounds Virginia currency to be paid by my son John Burgess out of the negroes which I have given him as before mentioned. 7thly I give to my daughter Peggy Neale one negro girl Siller, and her increase to her and her heirs forever. 8thly I give to my daughter Betsy Lewis one negro girl named Lydia and her increase to her and her heirs forever. 9thly I give to my daughter Sarah Cornwell the sum of forty pounds Virginia Currency or her heirs to be paid by my son John Burgess out of the negroes which I have give him as before mentioned. 10thly I give to my daughter Fanny Burgess two negro girls Delilah and Manah and there increase to her and her heirs forever and one bed and furniture. 11thly I give to my wife Sarah Burgess to dispose of as she thinks proper Lucy and Ailsy and their increase forever the balance of my estate to be equally divided. 12thly and lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my son John Burgess & William R. Smith my hole and sole executors to this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th day of February in the year 1819. This Instrument of writing purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Edward Burgess deceased was produced into court and proved to be the act and deed of the said Edward Burgess deceased by the oaths of William R.
