Peters Cemetery Location: About 9 miles northwest of Floyd, Virginia, in lot adjoining White Oak Grove Church, on Route #617. Floyd County DATE: 1855, date of oldest grave. OWNERS: This land is not recorded in the Clerk’s Office as White Oak Grove Cemetery, but is part of the church land, having been granted to Robert King from the government in 1794. On Aug. 7, 1823, Joseph King executed Deed of Trust to Henly Chapman. Deed Book B, page 311 On May 22, 1839, Kitty King, wife of Joseph King deeded her dower interest of her husband’s land to John Kirby. Deed Book B, page 279. John Kirby to A.J. Kirby Oct. 27, 1853. Deed Book G, page 199. A. J. Kirby to Jacob Graham & John C. Hall, Trustees for the Ironside Baptist Church on Nov. 17, 1856. Deed Book J, page 84. DESCRIPTION: This is a small plot of ground, about .5 acre on White Oak Grove Road, adjoining church lot on west. This cemetery according to gravestone date was begun about 1855, making it eighty three years old (1937). It is situated on a high ridge on a bluff overlooking a branch of Little River and the Kirby farm. It originally contained 1700 acres granted by the government to Robert King on November 7, 1794.
