Harvey Cole, Civil War Pension, 1906 - Floyd Co. VA Although Floyd Court House lists Harvey's record as unknown, his pension papers state the following, filed in 1906. Harvey Cole of Terry's Fork Virginia served in Stuart's Horse Artillery under Capt. John Phelham during the civil war. He was 79 yr.s old when he filled out forms for a pension. Some questions ask were-- Where did you enter the service-- Ans.- At Richmond VA. March 1862. When did you leave the service? --Ans.-- At the close of the war 1865 Where were you born. Ans.--Floyd Co. VA. How long have you resided in Virginia? Ans.--All my life. What is your usual and ordinary occupation for earning a living? Ans.--Farming How long have you followed such occupation or employment? Ans--Sixty-four years. Suffers from infirmities of old age being seventy-nine. Rheumatism in both legs. He stated that he was totally disabled from any labor by exposure and old age. Harvey's widow Cynthia Cole filed for her pension after her husband's death. She stated she was 78 yrs. old and that her husband had suffered from rheumatism and died of heart disease and old age in 1908. She states that she has lived in Floyd Co. all her life. She did not remarry, and is living with her son, J. Kyle Cole at Terry's Fork, VA. she has no property and no income. She lists as friends to her husband, G.W.Vest and Peter R. Vest.
