A native of West Virginia, he was a son of the late Italy P. and Theresa Ella Robinson Hay. He was last employed as a heavy equipment operator. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Omri Ray. Survivors include a brother, David Hay and wife Beverly, Birchleaf; two nephews, Robert O. and wife Anita Hay, Huntington, W.Va., and Warren M. and wife Katrina Hay, LaMesa, Calif.; three aunts, Garnette Compton, Grundy, Estelle (Peg) Owens and Vivian Kiser, both of Haysi; three stepbrothers, Wayne and wife Barbara Ray, Lancaster, Ky., Farley and wife Maryann Hay, Hazel Park, Mich., and Doran and wife Donna Ray, Oak Park, Mich.; one stepsister, Glena Ray Patton, Mt. Juliet, Tenn., and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Roger Fuller and Ronnie Rose officiating. Burial will be at the Robinson Cemetery, Laurel Branch, Va., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help with expenses. Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
