Shepherd Cemetery Location: Just beside the farmyard of Mr. E. E. Slater, Dixie. Fluvanna County DATE: (blank) OWNERS: (blank) DESCRIPTION: The Dixie Cemetery is just across the #6 Highway, Mr. E. E. Slater’s home grounds and farmyard, eastward. It is enclosed by a wall of unhewn granite, some of which has fallen. Within, owners and others sleep profoundly and well, as if they had polished shafts above them instead of unmarked granite boulders. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The only record left us is a slab of the owner’s granite eight inches thick, supported by a strong foundation of brick, made on the Dixie home place. This slab is finely carved and finished. The inscription reads thus: Here lies the body of Robert Lewis Holiman son of George and Polly I. Holiman Who was born on 11 day of May 1805 and died on the 1 day of April 1809 SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informant: Mr. E. E. Slater, Columbia, Virginia, owner through his wife.
