FLUVANNA COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Reiley Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Reiley graveyard: 1936 Dec. 3 Research made by R. E. Hannum Cemetery Location: West side of junction of Routes #633 and #600. Fluvanna County DATE: 1804, date of oldest grave. OWNERS: (blank) DESCRIPTION: There are eighteen graves all marked by upright stones, but only three of these are anything more than common field stones. The three finished ones are on the highest ground at what appears to have been the head of the yard. The yard is located in what was a large tract of timber, known as the Riley Tract, but a few years ago a forest fire burned across here, the heat chipped the stones and made it quite hard to read the inscriptions. There are stumps of trees growing or rather standing on some of the graves, these stumps are as much as fifteen inches in diameter. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Following are the inscriptions: ABm Reiley Died Feb. 1806 Age 82 Sara H. Reiley Died Dec. 16th, 1804 Age 56 Rhenton or Phenton Rieley Died Sept 1806 or 1808 The letters are mixed as to capitals and smalls ones, such as RieLeY and SePt. Mr. E. S. Snead of Troy tells me he remembers the ruins of the old house that stood on the brow of a hill, it was built of hewn logs he thinks it was only a one room and a loft building but says it might of had a small room in back. It had fallen in about fifty years ago. SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informant: Mr. E. S.
