Harrison's Regt., appears to have been disabled in such as manner while in the service of the United States as to entitle him to the sum of eighteen pounds yearly: which allowance is to commence from the 1st day of January 1786. Given under my hand as Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, at Richmond, this 25th day of January 1787. Signed: Edm: Randolph T. Meriwether I certify that John Hughes was a sergeant in Col. Harrison's Regiment of Artillery in the beginning of the year 1777 when I joined it. And I understand that he had been among the first enlisted in what was called the Old Company of Artillery raised under Col. Innes. That in spring 1778 when the Regiment was innoculated for small pox at Canley's previous to the march of said regiment to the northward, the said John Hughes became blind from that disorder. Given under my hand the 25th day of January 1787. Samuel Coleman, Lt 1st Regiment of Artillery December 6, 1888--John Hughes died as attested to by his administrater of the estate, George Morday. Received 16 pounds 16 shillings as amount owed to the estate.
