WILL OF HEZEKIAH HOLLAND, 1816, FLUVANNA COUNTY, VA In the name of God Amen. I Hezekiah Holland senior of Fluvanna County being of sound and disposing mind and memory and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die constitute and ordain this writing to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following to wit: Item the first it is my Will and desire that my just debts be paid by my Executors herein after named. Item the second I lend to my beloved Wife Mary Holland during her life or widowhood four Negroes namely Jack, Squire, Grace and Harriet. Also the tract of Land whereon I now live containing Two Hundred and thirty Acres with one half of the benefit of my Grist Mill which stands on the said Tract of Land. Also two Cows and Calves ten Hogs and ten Sheep four Horses her choice of my stock with my Waggon and household and Kitchen furniture of all kinds. and to this second Item I add that Tract of Land whereon my son Hezekiah formerly lived being by estimation three Hundred and fifteen Acres in Fluvanna County and known by the name of Nashes place this Land my Wife if she choose may cultivate and enjoy the term of her life as above mentioned. Item the third. I give and bequeath to my son Michael Holland one Negro girl named Amy and her increase together with that part of my estate in his possession to him and his heirs forever. Item the fourth. I give and bequeath to my son John Holland two Negroes named Philis and Clary with the increase together with that part of my Estate now in his possession to him and his heirs forever. Item the fifth. I give and bequeath to my daughter Catharine Timberlake one Negro called and known by the name of Big Rachel and her increase together with that part of my estate she has now in her possession during her natural life and after her decease to be equally divided among all her lawful children. Item the sixth. I give and bequeath to my Son in Law Obediah Moore as representative of my daughter Margaret Moore dec.d the Sum of Twenty Shillings Current Money of Virginia together with all that part of my Estate he now has in his possession to him and his heirs forever. Item the seventh. I give & bequeath to my daughter Dolley Morris one negro Girl named and known by the name of little Rachel with her increase also one Tract of Land containing by estimation one Hundred and forty Acres be the same more or less which I purchased of Christopher Standley together with all that part of my Estate now in her possession to her during her natural life and after her decease to be equally divided among all her lawful children. Item the eight. I give and bequeath to my Son Hezekiah Holland one Negro Girl called and known by the name of little Nancy with her increase together with all that part of my Estate now in his possession to him and his heirs forever. Item the ninth. I give and bequeath to my son Major Holland Two Hundred and Sixty Acres of Land being the Lands I purchased of William Harlow and John Denton also one other Tract containing forty Acres and one fourth Acre adjoining the Lands of Edward Humphrey and Christopher Shepherd. Also one Negro man Called and known by the name of Young Sam. Also all that part of my Estate he has now in his possession to him and his heirs forever. Item the tenth. I give and bequeath to my son Richard Holland three hundred and seventy Acres of Land lying on both sides of Kents branch so called adjoining the Land of Peter Ross and John B. Perkins, it being the Land I purchased of Henry Nash. Also one negro girl named and known by the name of little Patt with her increase together with all that part of my estate he now has in his possession to him and his heirs forever. Item the eleventh. I give and bequeath to my son Shandy Holland Two Hundred Acres of Land it being the Lands I purchased of Benjamin Cocke. Also ninty Acres of Land lying between the tract I now live on and the above mentioned tract. Also about Forty Acres of Land adjoining Major Holland's tract and the tract I now live on, and known by the name of Johns Tract. Also the benefit of my Saw Mill and one half the benefit of my Grist Mill both situate on the Land whereon I now live and after the decease of my Wife I give and bequeath to my said Son Shandy Holland the whole of the Tract of Land whereon I now live with the other half of the Grist Mill with all other improvements and appurtenances. Also one other Girl named Jude and her increase. also about Thirty Acres of Land adjoining John D. Perkins Land and the Land I now live on together with all that part of my Estate he now has in his possession to him and his heirs forever. Item the twelfth. I give and bequeath to my Grand Son David H. Morris one tract of Land which I purchased of Nicholas Writtenhouse with its appurtenances provided he lives to have lawful Issue, otherwise to be equally divided among his surviving brothers and sisters. Item the thirteenth. It is my Will and desire that after the death of my Wife all my estate not lent to my Wife except the Lands whereon I now live with its appurtenances, which is devised to my son Shandy Holland, with all my other Estate which is not devised in this my last Will and Testament to any of my children or grand children, both real and personal, and all outstanding Debts, be equally divided among my eight children to Wit: Michael Holland, John Holland, Catharine Timberlake, Dolley Morris, Major Holland, Hezekiah Holland, Richard Holland and Shandy Holland. To them & their heirs forever. And lastly I do hereby disannul and revoke all former Wills and Testaments heretofore by me made constituting and ordaining this as my last Will and Testament appointing my two Sons John and Shandy Holland and my Son in Law Guthrie Morris as Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this tenth day of February One thousand eight hundred and sixteen. Hezekiah Holland Published proclaimed & declared in presence of Jesse Tally, George Howard, John Bowles Perkins, Robert Lilly, John Doyle At a Court of Quarterly Sessions continued and held for Fluvanna County on Wednesday the 28th: day of August 1816, This Will was this day presented in court and proved by the Oath of Robert Lilly and John Doyle, two of the Witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of John Holland and Guthrie Morris, two of the Executors therein named, who made oath thereto as the Law directs and entered into an acknowledged bond in the penalty of Sixteen thousand Dollars with William Pasteur, James Currin, Robert Kent sen., Reuben Crewdson and John Doyle their securities conditioned as the Law directs, certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
