Whereas James Patterson by his Indenture of bargain and Sale bearing date the seventh day of July one thousand eight hundred, hath sold and conveyed unto Isham Belcher the fee simple estate of one - - hundred and sixty three and three quarters acres of Lane lying and being in the said County of Franklin, and whereins Margaret M. Patterson, the wife of the said James Patterson, cannot conveniently travel to our County Court of Franklin to make acknowledgment of the said conveyance. Therefore, we give unto you, or any two or more of you, power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Margaret shall be willing to make before you of the Conveyance aforesaid, contained in the said - - Indenture, which is hereunto annexed; and we do marioner require you that you do personally go to the said Margaret and examine her privity and apart from the said James her Husband whether she doth the same freely and voluntarily without the persuasions or threats of the said James and whether she be willing the the same should be recorded in our said County Court; and when you have received her ----acknowledgment and examined her as aforesaid that you distinctly Splainlye (?) certify us thereof in our said County Court returning also the said Indenture and this writ: Witnefs James Callaway Clerk of our said Court the second day of February 1802 in the 26th year of the CommonWealth. James Callaway Franklin County ______ In Obedience to the within Commifsion to us directed, we did to to Margaret the wife of the within named James Patterson, and examined her prively and apart from the said James her Husband whether she doth relinquish her right of dower in the within mentioned one hundred and Sixty three and three quarters acres of Land sold by her said Husband to Isham Belcher, which she declars she doth freely and voluntarily without the threats or persuasians of her said Husband and is willing that that the Indenture mentioned in the said Commifsion with this acknowledgment should be recorded in the County Court of Franklin. This Commifsion annexed to an Indenture of bargain and Sale between James Patterson of the one part, and Isham Belcher of the other part for taking the acknowledgment and privy examination of Margaret Patterson, wife of the said James and the Certificate of the execution hereof being returned into Court, are ordered to be recorded.
