All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ==================================================================== Between Thomas Payne and William Greenwood, November 6, 1820 Franklin County Virginia Deed Book 9, Page 179 This Indenture made this Sixth day of November in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and twenty between Thomas Payne and Moriah his wife late Moriah Greenwood of the County of Franklin and State of Virginia of the one part and William Greenwood of The County and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas Payne and Moriah his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and thirty dollars currency of the United States to them in hand paid by the said William Greenwood. The receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said Thomas Payne and Moriah his wife who hath granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell and comfirm unto the said William Greenwood all the right, title, interest, and claim which they the said Thomas Paine and Moriah his wife have in law or equity, in and to all the lands held and claimed by the late Samuel Greenwood in his lifetime, estimated at about six hundred acres be the same more or less and lying on both sides of Staunton River, about two hundred acres of which lies in the said County of Franklin, and about four hundred acres thereof lies in the County of Bedford. To have and to hold all the right, title, interest and claim which they the said Thomas Paine and Moriah his wife as distributees of the said Samuel Greenwood deceased have in law or equity in and to the above described lands unto the said William Greenwood his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Thomas Payne and Moriah his wife for themselves and their heirs doth covenant and agree to forever warrant and defend all their right, title, interest and claim in law or equity in and to the land held and claimed by the said Samuel Greenwood deceased in his lifetime as before described unto the said William Greenwood his heirs and assigns forever against the claims and demands of them the said Thomas Payne and Moriah his wife and their heirs and all persons claiming under them and them only. In witness whereof the said Thomas Payne and Moriah his wife hath hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first herein before written.
