Newspaper October 12, 1854
The Daily Dispatch, Richmond Virginia 
PARRICIDE-- A man named Peter VIA was killed a few days ago in Franklin County, by 
his son, Wm. VIA.  The Floyd Intelligencer says:
The deceased had come home after night under the influence of ardent spirits, and 
for some trifling offence inflicted a sever castigation upon one of his younger 
sons, and upon William's expostulating with him upon his brutality, he made an 
attack upon him which resulted in being struck on the head with an axe, from the 
effect of which he died the next morning.
The murderer was subsequently arrested in Giles county.
