Parker/Cockran Marriage License, 1818 - Franklin Co. VA Know all men by these presents thaw we W.James Parker and William Moore are held and firmly bound unto his excellency James P. Preston Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and his successors in office, for the use of the commonwealth in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars-to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and each of us, our heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this 9th day of September 1818. The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the above bound James Parker hath this day obtained a license for his intermarriage with Charlotte Cockran of the said county. Now if there is no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then this obligation to be void else remain in full force and virtue. Witness. James x Parker F.
