Will of Robert Woods Sr., 1809 Franklin County, Virginia Will Book 1 - Page 374 I, Robert Woods Sr. of Franklin County, am advanced in years, but at this present time, of sound mind and memory. To John S. Burwell and Josiah Woods, my son - the following Negroes, to wit, Robert, Nan, Jane, Patsey, together with her daughter now born named Lucinda; also all my household and kitchen furniture, all my plantation utensils, and one third of the cattle, hogs, and sheep on the plantation whereon I now live; also, 1 horse called Jolly, and saddle and bridle, to be by them held in trust for the use of my daughter, Sarah Woods. If Sarah dies without an heir of her body, Sarah to have the sole right of disposing of the above property. To my daughter Sarah Woods - during her continuance on the plantation whereon I now live, the right to occupy the house where I now live, enough ground for her to cultivate corn and flax, to be adjudged by my executors who will also judge the quantity of the place where she shall have the same, half the orchard attached to the plantation whereon I now live, and that part of the meadow which I now occupy, the use of a yoke of oxen when she needs them. To my son Josiah Woods - the tract of land where I live, excepting to my daughter Sarah, the rights, as above. Also Negro man Anthony. To my grandson Wiley Woods, son of Josiah - Negro man Isaac. To my granddaughter Harriot Woods, daughter of Josiah - Negro girl Easter. To my granddaughter Elizabeth Middleton Burwell - Negro girl Letty. To my daughter Elizabeth Hill - Negro woman Fanny, Philis, & Eady and all her children. To my son Robert Woods - Negro man Sam. To my grandsons Wiley Woods, son of Josiah, & Bailey Woods, son of Hugh Woods - the bond due me from the estate of Hugh Woods. dec'd, to be equally divided between them, when collected by my executors. To prevent any future misunderstanding or contention about my estate, after my death, I want it understood that all my property should be disposed of as described in this will, except such as may have been disposed of during my lifetime. Such of my children or their representatives who are not named in this will, should have no benefit or advantage from my estate, as I have intentionally excluded them. Executors: John S. At Franklin County Court of Nov. 4, 1811, this will of Robert Woods, deceased, was proved by the oath of all 3 witnesses, and ordered recorded. And at Mar 3, 1812 Court, on the motion of John S, Burwell, one of the executors, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate in due form, liberty being reserved to the other executor to join in the probate when he shall see fit.
