He was not in that county in 1810 as also shown by the census. his name Federal Census. He was not in that county in 1810 as also shown by the census. his name appears on a list taken in 1820 taken in the vicinity of Stephens City Virginia. Many residents of the area including Alexander Marks were methodists. Alexander Marks first deed was recorded in 1823 when he bought from David Weaver and his wife, a half acre lot in the town of Stephensburg. The deed reads as follows Deed Book 48 page 175 November 25 1823 David Weaver and Elizabeth "both of Frederick County Virginia to Alexander Marks of the same place - consideration, $450.00 - "the said David Weaver and Elizabeth, his wife" convey to the said Alexander Marks a parcel of land lying in the town of Stephensburg on the mainstreet thereof known on the plat of said town as Lot No. 34 containing 1/2 acre being the same lot that was conveyed by Mary Stephens to John Pitman, Junr and by the said John PItman Jr to the said David Weaver. Witness: John C. Poole, Snr John Stephens Signatures David Weaver Elizabeth Weaver In 1827 Alexander Marks bought another piece of real estate as follows Deed Book 53 page 187 September 10 1827 Daniel Mytinger to Alexander Marks " both parties of the state of Virginia and the county of Frederick" Witnesseth that Daniel Mytinger as trustee in a deed of conveyance from John Pitman and wife to secure the payment of a certain sum of money in said deed specified did agreeable to the powers vested in him by said trust enter upon and sell two outlots, apart of the property conveyed in said trust on the 26th day of Feby, 1825 where Alexander Marks became the purchaser as highest bidder of $258.00 Said property consisting of two outlots known in the Plat of Stephensburg as lots 80 and 81 bounded by Squirrel Lane on the east, by Henry Jackson on the south, by G Ritenour on the west and by Peter Keeding on the North. "the one known by the pond lot and its fellow containing ten acres and were conveyed by William Denny to John Pitman and by Pitman and wife to Daniel Mytinger with other lots in trust. Signature Daniel Mytinger Deed Book 53 page 188 17 March 1827 Susanna Weaver relict and widow of Christian Weaver deceased late of New Town of Frederick County Virginia and Sarah Weave the daughter of the said C. Weaver deceased of the one part to Alexander Marks of the said county and state of the other part consideration $225.00 all that lot or half acre of land in the town of New Town Stephensburg in the County of Frederick in the state of Virginia, known by No. 35 containing 1/2 acre, being the same lot of land conveyed by Phillip Trout and Magdalena, his wife by deed on 28th day of April, 1806 to Christian Weaver and which was devised by the last will and testament of the said Christian Weaver to his wife Sussanah Weaver during her natural life and at her death to his daughter Sarah Weaver forever Signed Sussanah Weaver Signed Sarah Weaver Alexander Marks served as trustee in two deeds of trust. (1) in 1842 in a mortgage made by Robert Thompson for money owed to Robert Clark (2) in 1843 as trustee for Robert Miller and wife to secure indebtedness to Jacob Mytinger On July 1 1839 William S. Kline and Christiana his wife sold to Alexander Marks for the sum of $90.00 a parcel of land lying below Newtown in Frederick County containing 28 1/2 acres joining lands of Henry Pifer heirs Martin Clevenger heirs and others being the same land conveyed to the said Kline by deed dated October 15 1845 from Catherine Cline Deed Book 75 page 27 An appraisal and sale of the estate of Alexander Marks, dec. was made on April 10 1845 as shown in Will Book 21 page 493 of Frederick County. The appraisers were M. Steele Wm. Denny and Joseph Long. The administrator was Jas. A. Pifer. The list of accounts owed by the estate of Alexander Marks gives a good indication of whom he was doing buisness with. The include Alexander Jones of Front Royal who was a blacksmith William Denny and James L. Johnson, The Shryocks, Washington Albin, Capt J. Long G. L. White, L.s. Long, S. S. Harmon, Samuel Marks, M. Steel, Burton and Williams, Hamilton Gibson, A. Redd, J. Nolan J.B. Taylor, William B. Walter, Robert Frazier and Alamong and Lemley. One item noted "expenses of going to Hampshire to get deed executed". Two items noted among the receipts were payments from "the firm of Marks and Miller" suggesting that Alexander Marks was in buisness prior to his death with someone named Miller. This accounting was recorded by the clerk of the frederick County Court on April 5 1847. ================================================================================ Marriage Notes ================================================================================ Frederick County Virginia marriage records state that Alexander Marks married Sarah Mytinger on April 17 1819. The date has also been shown as April 20 1819.
