VanMeter Cemetery Location: Very near the Mansion, Battlefield Inn, Kernstown, Virginia. Frederick County DATE: 1836, date of oldest grave. OWNERS: S. M. Chiles. (1936) DESCRIPTION: This was a private burying place and is not kept up; the fence is down and graves sunken. Many stones are sunk in the ground so far that the lettering can not be read. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: In memory of Nicholas Kern born May 8th 1768 died October 16th 1842 Aged 75 years 5 months & 2 days In memory of Elizabeth Beemer who departed this life May 22nd 1836 Aged 39 years She is not dead but sleepeth In memory of John Beemer who departed this life July 9th 1847 Sacred to the memory of Susannah Beemer who departed this life August 28th 1847 in the 65th year of her age Happy spirit thou hast fled where no greif can entrance find Lulled to rest thy aching head sooth the anguish of thy mind.
