VanMeter Cemetery Location: Stephen City, Virginia Frederick County DATE: 1772, date of oldest grave. OWNERS: German Reformed Church. DESCRIPTION: This Grave Yard was at one time a public burying place but is not used now. Some of the graves of recent years have been moved to “Green Hill” the present Cemetery. The undergrowth is kept out and it is in fairly good condition. Some of the markers are down and some have sunken in the ground to such a distance that part of the inscription can not be read. This is the oldest grave yard in Stephen City. Several of the original Stephens, whose family established Stephen City, are buried there.
