VanMeter Cemetery Location: 14 miles from Winchester, Virginia, on Route #600. Near Taylor Furnace. 15 miles from Route #11. Frederick County DATE: Prior to 1814. OWNERS: St. John’s Lutheran Church. DESCRIPTION: St. John’s Grave Yard was established before 1814 and is located 14 miles from Winchester, Virginia, on Route #600, near Taylor Furnace. It is in St. John’s Lutheran Church Yard and belongs to hat congregation. The Graveyard is in splendid condition; it is well fenced and the markers are in good shape. In the list of inscriptions will be seen the grave of Mordecai Bean, who was a contemporary of General Isaac Zane, and with whom General Zane worked in the iron business. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Sacred to the memory of Jacob Fry who departed this life December 23rd, 1838 Aged 69 years 9 months and 13 days Jesus said I am the Resurrection and the life he that believeth in me though he were dead Yet shall he live.
