The cemetery is a small family cemetery for the owners of "Kenmore" in the 1800s. The mansion had been built in the early 1770s by Fielding Lewis for his wife, Betty Washington, sister of George. Following her death in 1797 (Fielding had preceded her in 1781), the estate was sold. In 1819, Samuel Gordon, a Scottish immigrant, purchased the mansion and named it "Kenmore". The name remains. The Gordon family lived at Kenmore for 40 years. It is now maintained by the Kenmore Association for the city of Fredericksburg. (For more on Kenmore, go to: http://www.kenmore.org/) The cemetery houses 12 identified persons. It is enclosed by a brick wall about 6 feet high, with one gate as an entrance. The cemetery is in quite good shape. Even the two sandstone headstones are perfectly legible, perhaps owing to being under the protective branches of some rather large trees. The residents: (1.
