GILES COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Henry Gore to James Thompson, 30 Sep 1823 ----¤¤¤---- THIS INDENTURE made this 30th day of September in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty three, between Henry Gore and Susanna his wife of the County of Giles and State of Virginia of the one Part, and James Thompson of the County and State aforesaid of the other part, WITNESSETH, that the said Henry Gore and Susanna his wife for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to them in hand Paid by the above named James Thompson, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain, sell, deliver, and confirm unto the above named James Thompson and his heirs forever; two tracts or parcels of land adjoining each other containing both together three hundred and fifty acres by Survey lying and being in the County of Giles in Island Creek a branch of New River and bounded as follows, towit, BEGINNING at a Hycory and two white oaks and running N 28o west 34 poles crossing a run to a white oak, N 54o E 136 poles, to a white oak, N 10o W 50 poles to a black oak in a hollow N 26 E 20 poles to a black oak N 46 W 20 poles to a Hycory and white oak, N 60o E 48 poles to a black oak and white oak S 42 E 46 poles crossing a branch to two white oaks N 74 E 60 poles to a black oak, N 24 E 42 poles to a black oak, S 45 E 72 ps crossing a branch to a white oak, S 5 W 30 poles to a white oak S 88 E 64 poles to two white oaks on the top of a Ridge, and S 70 W 386 poles to the BEGINNING. The second tract and joining the first tract containing one hundred and ninety one Acres, BEGINNING at a large white oak corner to first tract and running N 10 W 24 poles to a black and white oak saplings N 58 W 64 poles to a white oak and dogwood, S 84 W 46 poles to a large chesnut oak and white oak sapling, S 45 W 90 poles to a white and black oaks by a Pond on a Ridge, S 67 W 58 poles to two black oaks and a white oak, S 16 E 156 poles to two Chesnut oaks by a cleft S 75 E 48 poles to three white oak Saplings by the point of a Ridge, N 48 E 92 poles to a white oak on a steep hill side N 57 W 23 poles to a Hycory and two white oaks, N 28 W 24 poles crossing a branch to a white oak and N 24 E 136 poles, to the BEGINNING, with their appurtenances to have and to hold the said Tracts or parcels of land with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging to the said James Thompson and his heirs forever and the above mentioned Henry Gore and Susanna his wife do consent and agree to and with the said James Thompson that the rights and title of the above mentioned tracts of land they will warrant and defend unto him the said James Thompson and his heirs forever from the claim or claims of every person or persons whatsoever. In testmony whereof the said Henry Gore and Susanna his wife hath hereunto set their hands, and affixed their seals, the day and year above written. Signed sealed and delivered Henry Gore (Seal) in presence of Susanna Gore (Seal At Giles September Court 1823 This deed of Bargain and Sale from Henry Gore and Susanna his wife to James Thompson was acknowledged in Court, the said Susanna being first privately examined as the law directs relinquished her right of dower, which is ordered to be recorded, Teste David French CGC Immediately following the above deed was a deed transfering 15 acres of land on the West side of Island Creek from William Wilson and Polly, his wife, to James Thompson. This second deed had the following supplement attached to it. This is to certify that whereas William Wilson and Polly his wife late of the County of Giles has deeded to James Thompson of the County of Giles a certain tract or parcel of land containing by estimation Fifteen Acres - lying in the County of Giles on Island Creek as designated in the deed from said Wilson to said Thompson and the deed being but Special, only warranting and defending the title of said land from himself, heirs and all or any other claiming in by or through him the said William Wilson. Therefore I Henry Gore of the said County of Giles and State of Virginia do bind myself, my heirs and assigns, that I the said Henry Gore will warrant and defend the said tract or parcel of land unto the said James Thompson and his heirs forever, from any or every older claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Henry Gore has here unto set his hand and affixed his Seal, this 30th Day of September 1823.
