GILES COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Henry Gore to Chapman & Shumate, 8 May 1835 ----¤¤¤---- THIS INDENTURE made this 8th day of May 1835 between Henry Gore of the first part Manic_____ Chapman of the second part and Parkinson Shumate of the third part all of the County of Giles & State of Virginia Witnesseth that whereas the said Henry Gore is justly indebted to the said Parkinson Shumate in the sum of one hundred & four dollars and nineteen cents due by note beginning date this day which debt with the legal interest accruing the payment to the said Parkinson Shumate Now this Indenture Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the promises for the further consideration of one dollar to the said Henry in hand paid by the said Manicl_____ Chapman the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said Henry Gore has this day granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth give grant bargain and sell unto the said Manicl____ Chapman a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Giles on the waters of Island Creek being the same tract on which the said Henry Gore now lives containing two hundred acres be the same more or less To have and to hold the said piece or parcel of land with all and singular its appurtenances there unto belonging or in any wise appurtaining to the said Maniclius Chapman his heirs & assigns forever and against the claim of all and every person or persons claiming by through or under him and against the claim of all and every person or persons whatsoever & the said Henry Gore will forever warrant and defend the title to the aforesaid tract of land by these presents Upon trust nevertheless that the said Manicl_____ Chapman or his legal representatives shall as soon as he conveniently can after the first day of September next or as soon thereafter as the said Parkison Shumate shall require or the said Gore request proceed to sell at public auction for ready money the two hundred acres of land aforesaid having first giving twenty days notice of the time and place of the sale of the same at the front door of the Court house of Giles County and out of the money arising from the sale of the same first pay the drawing and recording these presents and all expenses attending the sale and then pay to the said Parkison Shumate the Debt aforesaid with the legal interest thereon and the balance if any pay to the said Henry Gore.
