GILES COUNTY, VA - NEWSPAPERS - Bluefield Daily Telegraph, 2 Mar 1901 Amos Lipford Killed --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Shot Him Dead - Fatal Shooting Affray Occurs at Richlands - About midnight Thursday night Amos Lipsford went to the store of Ply Hawkins in Richlands, and threatened to kill him. Hawkins fired first, the bullet striking Lipsford in the temple, killing him instantly. The circumstances that led up to the tragedy were not learned, our correspondent being somewhat hazy on that subject. Hawkins is a member of one of the best families in the county, and has always borne a good reputation. Lipsford lived at Cedar Bluff, where his remains were taken for internment. He leaves a wife and several children. Hawkins was given bail in the sum of $500, and will have his trial next Monday.
