ADAM TAYLOR'S WILL In the name of God amen I Adam Taylor of the county of Giles and State of Virginia being very sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for his mercy and calling into mind the Mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my Last will and testament principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of almighty who give it and and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent christian manner at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but I shall receive it again by the might power God at the great and general Resurrection of quick and dead and as touch such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased god to bless me with in this life I Give demise & dispose of the same in the following manner and form to wit first I Give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Mary this seat and plantation whereon I now live with all my household furniture together with all my farming tools and utentials with two horses for the purpose of farming freely to be possessed and enjoyed by her for for the purpose of raising my remainding family and to have and to hold the same so long as she shall or may remain to be a widow under my name or during her life but if she shall marry on her marrying or deceasing the seat and plantation to fall to my sons after the manner hereafter mentioned and the movable property to fall to my daughtors after the manner and form here after mentioned I also give and bequeath to my well beloved daughter Elizabeth Hunter and Robert Hunter Jun. her husband the plantation whereon they now live as the lines and boundaries already run and marked shall direct and by them freely to be possessed and enjoyed I also will and bequeath to Samuel Hunter the son of Elizabeth and Robert Hunter junier one bay horse formerly the property of John Taylor freely by him to be possessed and enjoyed I also will and bequeath to my daughtor Agness Taylor one bay mare and her colt freely by her to be possessed and enjoyed I also will and bequeath to James Taylor my son one black mare and her colt freely to be possessed and enjoyed by him I also will and bequeath to my son William Taylor one mingled coloured mare of four years old freely by him to be possessed I also will and bequeath to George Taylor my son one chesnut coloured colt of one year old freely to be possessed and enjoyed by him I also will and decree that equally out of the part and Legacy of James William and George my three eldest sons there be made by them as much as will make the sum of thirty five dollars each for the purpose of buying my three younger sons each a horse of that value when they shall arive to the age of sixteen years and as touching all my lands and tenements excepting that herein willed and bequeathed to Robert Hunter and Elizabeth his wife I decree and will that all my other lands and tenements be equally divided amongst my sons namely James William George Allen Joseph and Charles to be divided so that acording to quantity and quallity each get equal in worth only I will and decree that at the death of Mary my wife the portion and part of my younger son be made off that it include this improvement of buildings orchards and medow on this north side of the creek with as much cleard and wood land as possably may fall to his part and as touching all the rest of my movable property and all my debts when collected I will and decree that the property be carefully collected together and sold by fair and open sail and the amount of the same be equally divided amongst the rest of my daughters namely Verlindia Mary and Martha and as touching my household furniture I decree and will that after the death of Mary my wife they be equally divided amongst my daughters last named I likewise constitute make and ordain Henry Trout and Tarlton Bell executors to this my last will and testament & I do hereby utterly disalow revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments wills legacies bequsts and executors by me in any wise before mentioned willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fifth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen Adam Taylor {Seal} Signed sealed and published pronounced declared by the do. Webb George Webb THE CODICIL TO THE SAME Codecial be it known to all by these presents that I Adam Taylor farmer in Giles county have made and declared my last will and testament writing having date the fifth day of August one thousand eight hundred and fourteen I the do. Adam Taylor by this present codicial do ratify and confirm my do. last will and testament and do farther decree and will that there shall be ten head of cattle out of my stock chose out by Mary my wife for the saport of my rising family to remain with her and them during her present widow hood or if not marry during her life and on her death or mariag them and their increase to be equally divided amongst my four younger daughtors as also all my stock of hogs sheep and smaller stock for the seport of my family as also all the small grain and standing corn and of all the stock that shall be to the fore at the death of Mary my wife shall be equally divided amongst daughters afforesd. and my will and meaning is that this codicil be adjudged to be a part and parcel of my last will & testament and that all things therein mentioned and contained be faithfully and truly performed & as fully & amply in every respect as if the same ware so declared and set down in my do. last will & testament & witness my hand this fifth day of August one thousand eight hundred & fourteen his Adam X Taylor Signed in the presents of us mark Joseph Taylor Wm.
