Clapton | | | | Dec. 22d, 1847 | | | | Refd. to Pross | | Jany. 12th, | | Reasonable & | | _______ __ Bill. | | 14th Bill | | reported. | +------------------+ To the General Assembly of Virginia, we your petitioners most humbly beg that your honourable body will amend the Oyster law now in force in the following way Viz. The 4th Section which prohibits all except citizens from catching oysters from the first of May to the first of September. This we wish amended so as to read from the first of May to the first of October. The 9th Section we also wish amended so as to extend the time of transporting oysters out of the State to the first of May, instead of the first of April as it now is. The 11th Section we also wish amended, which now prohibits vessels over 65 tons from transporting oysters out of the State and requiring vessels to be Licensed by the County courts, this we wish amended, so as to allow vessels of all classes, to carry oysters out of the State and to dispence with the unnecessary trouble of obtaining license from the Courts and these amendments we do most humbly beg.
