March 1728/9 (1:77) Case of Edward Morgan vs John Pleasants, administrator of the estate of William Howe. Defendant ordered to pay Morgan 3 pounds, 13 shillings, 3 pence plus 198 pounds of tobacco to cover court costs. 1:208 "Morgan to Huson" page missing from book. No Morgan listed in Order Book 2. No "M" index for Order Book 3, so there may be additional information that I missed. March 1732/3 George Rains brought action of trespass against John Morgan, who failed to appear. Referred to next court. (3:148) Nevertheless, two petitions were filed on John Morgan's behalf, against John Twitty (3:153) and James Maryo (3:162). May 1733 John Morgan pleads not guilty of trespass against George Rains, and asks for a trial. (3:181) His petition against James Maryo was dismissed. (3:186) July 1733 The case of Rains v Morgan was continued to next court at plaintiff's expense. (3:200) March 1733/4 In the case of Rains v Morgan, Thomas Prosser provided security for court costs. The jury consisted of Thomas Turpin (foreman), Howell Burton, John Biboy, Bartholomew Stovall, William Cannon, Charles Allen, Thomas Ballow, John Prior, Thomas Wadlow, James Christian, David Pattison, and Robert Christian. They found for the plaintiff and ordered Morgan to pay 2 pounds, 19 shillings, and one half-pence. Morgan filed a plea of arrest of judgment, which was referred to the next court. (3:227) May 1734 In the case of Rains v Morgan, Thomas Prosser apeared for the plaintiff and Edward Bonnot appeared for the defendant. The court upheld the jury's decision in the case. (3:254) 20 May 1729 Note that an execution of the judgment in the case of Edward Morgan v John Pleasants was never returned. (3:274) June 1735 Anthony Morgan filed a petition against Peter Bottar (sp?). (3:369) September 1735 In the case of Morgan v Boccar, a judgment was entered for the plaintiff in the amount of 25 shillings, 2 pence. (3:394) November 1749 Isham, a negro boy belonging to Anthony Morgan, was judged to be 12 years old. (6:560) September 1761 John Moseley and John Hopkins provided special bail for John Morgan in the trespass suit of John Pleasants, Sr., and John Pleasants, Jr. A judgement was made for the plaintiffs in 1759. Morgan was turned-over to the sheriff until he could discharge the judgement. (9:23) The same day, Morgan filed a trespass suit against James Tuggle, and received a judgment of 20 shillings. (9:24) And, he filed a suit against Francis Houchens for trespass, assault, and battery, and received a judgment of 30 shillings. (9:29)
