Samuel LeMay, Jr. to John P. White

This Indenture made this 14th day of July in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and twenty seven between Samuel LeMay of the County
of Hanover of the one part, and John P. White of another part and Hector
Davis of the other part, Witnesseth:  that the said Samuel Lemay being
justly indebted to the said Hector Davis in the sum of one hundred and
thirteen dollars & eighty four cents and being willing and desiring to
secure the payment thereof, and for the further consideration of one dollar
to him in hand paid by the said John P. White at or before the ensealing and
delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge
hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto the
said John P. White all that tract or parcel of land lying in the county of
Goochland derived by the said Lemay under the will of his late brother
William Lemay, containing the whole tract four hundred and ten acres of
which the said Saml Lemay is entitled to a moiety, one bay mare, three
feather beds and furniture, household and kitchen furniture, and all his
carpenters tools with the reversion & reversions, remainder & remainders
yearly and other rents, issues & profits of the said land, and all his
estate therein both at law and in equity:  To have and to hold the said land
& other property herein described to him the said John P. White his heirs
and Executor or administrators and assigns forever upon trust never the
less, that if he the said Saml Lemay shall make default of payment to the
said Hector Davis of the sum of one hundred and thirteen dollars and eighty
four cents which he owes to him by bond bearing even date with these
presents, when the same shall become due, then the said White shall having
been so requested by the said Davis, proceed to sell the said property, or
so much thereof as shall be sufficient to pay and satisfy the said debt and
all charges attending this deed of trust, having advertised the time and
place of sale ten days at least in some newspaper in the City of Richmond,
the proceeds of which said sale, after paying the debt aforesaid and the
charges attending the execution of the trust, to be paid over to the said
Saml Lemay or his legal representatives.  But should the said Lemay pay or
cause to be paid unto the said Hector Davis the said sum of money and
expenses of this deed, when the bond of the said Lemay shall become due then
and in that event this Indenture is to be given up and cancelled and be of
no effect.  In Witness whereof the said Saml Lemay has hereunto set his hand
& affixed his seal this & year first above written,
