This same will is reported to have been recorded in Amherst County, VA. as well. Inventory and accounting filed in Goochland. (All errors in original, I hope): " In the name of God amen, I Stokes McCaul sen.r being in a low state of health but in my perfect mind do make this my last will & testament revoking all other wills heretofore made that is to say, First all my just debts to be paid and at my death my will and desire is that my land. my negroes, my stock, and all and every kind of property, both real and personal, shall be sold to the highest bidder on 12 months credit, by my executors hereafter mentioned and the money arising from the sale of the property shall be equally divided among all my children that is then living towit Rich. McCaul, Stokes McCaul, Jno. McCaul, Wm. M.Caul, Charles M. Caul, Ryal M. Caul & Josiah McCaul and their heirs forever. I appoint Hez.h Puryear, Richd. McCaul, Jn.o McCaul and William McCaul my executors to this last will and testament. In Witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 23d March 1818." The will was signed by Stokes McCaul (in full, not by an "X") with witnesses: H. Puryear, Wm. LaPrade, and J. Puryear. The document then had the following proof: At a monthly session court held for Goochland County at the courthouse on Monday the 21st Dec.r 1818 ___ This writing was presented in court and proved by the oaths of Hezekiah Pureyear, & Joseph Puryear to be the last will and testament of Stokes M.cCaul Dec.d and ordered to be recorded." Submitted by:
