GOOCHLAND COUNTY, VIRGINIA - DEED BOOK 8 (partial) PAGE 162 21 April 1761 John Morgan of St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, to John Martin, Esquire, of Dublin, Ireland, for the sum of 25 pounds, did sell land on the west side of Byrd Creek, containing 37 acres. From a corner red oak, running with John Martin's old line, north 57 degrees west 58 poles to 2 white oaks, then north 10 degrees east 156 poles to a white oak, then a new line south 43 degrees east 30 poles to a pine, then with John Henson's line south 162 poles to the first station. Witnesses: James George, William Robards, John Hopkins, Francis Houchens. Recorded 21 July 1761. Note, Deed Book 11, page 111, shows that John and Barbara Martin sold their land in Goochland (total of 342 acres) on 15 August 1775, to Thomas Mann Randolph, for the sum of 600 pounds. This land lay on the James River, adjoining the property of the Randolph, Powell, Brooks, and Bates families.
