MATTHEW LOWRY, SENR, WILL, 17 JULY 1794

In the name of God, Amen.  I Matthew Lowry of Goochland County, sick of body
but of perfect sence and memory do make and ordain this my last will and
testament in manner and form following first and principally & in and
through the merits of my Blessed Saviour, Jesus Christ, to receive pardon
and remition of all my sins and any body I commit to the earth to be buried
in a Christian manner at the discretion of my Executrix here after to be
mentioned and as touching what worldly state as its Pleased God to bestow
upon me, I leave and bequeth as followeth:  to my two loving sons, James &
Noel (sic Joel?) all my land on the south side of the road equally divided
between them the upper part to James and the lower to Joel allowing their
mother all limber she wants for the use of the lower plantation during her
life.  I also leave and bequeth to my loving wife three Negroes, Feby,
Lewis, and Jacob, with all the stocks and furniture belong to the plantation
but she is to give one cow to my Daughter Nancy, and at my wifes death she
may divide what is left to the children as she thinks proper but allowing my
son Matthew one cow next spring, turnover and I appoint my loving wife
Executrix of this last will and Testiment revoking all former wills by me
made.  In witness whereof have set my hand and seal this 17th July 1794.

At a Court held for Goochland County the 20th of Oct 1794.  This last Will &
Testament of Matthew Lowry Dec'd has proved by the oaths of Francis Pace and
Tho. Green and ordered to be recorded.  Then Elizabeth Lowry, the Executrix,
made oath according to law and gave bond in Penalty & five hundred pounds
with Merriwether Thurston & Andrew Ware her Securities whereupon Probat was
granted her in due for.
