This grave in Grayson County VA is located in a wooded area on
the north side of RT 632, (Cold Springs Road). The grave has a
stone marker and is surrounded by a small fence. The grave is
near the site of an old Phipps home place and near the residence
of R N Andrews, who was kind enough to show me the location.

The stone is marked:
     Howard Smith
     Born December 9 1843
     Died December 23 1891

In the Grayson County Death Records his death is recorded as:
     Howard Smith  Black Male  Age 46 Y  Died December 23 1890
     Cause: Neck broken
     Parents: Sam Welch & Polley Smith
