Capitalization, spelling, etc. has not been changed. ~ Rose Thompson Fox Grayson Co, Virginia Will Book 1, Pages 234-236 I, Catherine Thompson widow of Robert Thompson, dece'd of the County of Grayson and State of Virginia, being very old and infirm but of sound mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same and i the said Catherine Thompson having, considerable property both real and personal left me by my husband, Robert Thompson, dece'd to dispose of as thought proper, I do so therefore hereby make this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say, first I desire to be by my executors to be hereafter named, buried a decent and Christian burial and after all my just debts ,if any there should be, be paid and my funeral expences out of my money arising out of my Estate. I give to my oldest son, Robert Hammock, a son which I had by a former husband, William Hammock, dece'd, one bay mare which I have known by the name of Feebe or fifty dollards, his choice and if it should be his choice to take the money, then under that circumstance, he is to waight for the same until my executors shall have collected it agreeable to the direction of my will to be hereafter named and as he has already had a proportionable part of the said estate and more than would be his equall share tharefore, I can leave him no more. Secondly, I give to my well beloved daughter, Margaret Thompson, one negro man by the name of David about twenty-four years of age, together with one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one brafs skillet, one hackle and one bason, one small trunk, one looking glafs and one stone jug to be by her the said Margaret Thompson and her heirs enjoyed forever and I give her my other part of my estate thirdly the land on which I now live in the said County of Grayson, containing three hundred acres be the same more or less I give to my daughter Jane Simmons, Mitchel Thompson, David Thompson, and Nelson Thompson to be by them equally divided as they may think fit as I have already given to my son, John Thompson, fifty eight acres of land in another tract tharefore I have not given him any of the above mentioned three hundred acres. Fourthly, all the rest of my Estate both real and personal, consisting of a considerable quantity of land lying in the State of Kentucky, also four young negroes and thare increase if any, thare should be in my lifetime the names of the above four negros this viz: Easter, Nelson, Roy, and Henry, also the ballance of my stock of horses, cattle, hogs, and sheep, as well as he ballance of my household and kitchen furniture and plantation utensils, also all debts that is due to me or to my husband Robert Thompson, dec'd as I was left the only executrix to his estate and thare bein som debts yet not collected and all and everything or things real or personal or in any wise belongings to me or to the above named estate that i not particularly above named. I give to my other children viz; Jane Simmons, Michel Thompson, David Thompson, John Thompson, and Nelson Thompson to be divided after the following manner that is to say viz: all to be sold at twelve months credit by my executors to the highest bidder and after paying to my executors a reasonalbe compensation for that usable to be collected and equally divided amongst my last named five children which i give to them their heirs executors administrator and afsigns forever and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my well beloved son, Michell Thompson and my son-in-law Joel Simmons executors of this my last will and testament made In Witnefs shareof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this eleventh day of January in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen. Signed Sealed and Acknowledged Her to be the last will and testament Catherine (X) Thompson of Catherine Thompson within named Mark In presence of us Joshua (his mark) Haynes, Jr Wiliam (his mark) Lewis John Foster Grayson, March Court 1820 This last will and testament of Catherine Thompson dece'd was proven in court by William Lewis and John Foster subscribing witnefses and ordered to be accorded and Michell Thompson Executor tharein named appeared in court and relingquished the right of Executorship and thareupon by request of the said Michell Thompson, a certificate is granted Martin Dickenson for obtaining letters of administrator with the will annexed on the estate of the said Catherine Thompson, Dece'd. Whareupon the said Martin Dickenson together with Jabez Johnson, James Anderson, Granville Henderson, John Thompson, Michell Thompson, his securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of $5000 and quallifyed according to law.
