Mitchell Cemetery Location: one fourth mile southwest of Court House in Stanardsville. Greene County DATE: Prior to 1856. OWNERS: Woodson Family. DESCRIPTION: This was originally The Sorrille Cemetery but since about 1870 it has been used as public cemetery. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Some of the families buried here are the: Mitchell’s Gibbens Hunters Humes Penningtons Woodsons and various others. Among the old markers will be found: Virginia Sims Born Oct. 2nd 1850 Died Oct. 13th 1856 R.S.D. Sorrille born April 1st 1857 T. J. Sorrille Born Nov. 16th 1809 Died Feby 8 1863 There are older graves but no markers.
