Rains/Rains Deed, 1859 - Greene Co. VA Greene County Deed Book 4 page 302 This deed made this 6th day of Sept 1859 between Fielding Raines Sr and Elizabeth his wife of the one part and Richard Raines of the other part, all of the county of Greene, witnesseth that the said Fielding Rains & Elizabeth his wife for and in consideration of the sum of thirty five dollars to them in hand by the said Richard Rains paid, doth grant unto the said Richard Rains all their right title and interest in a certain tract or parcel of land situated and lying in the county of Greene being part of the land known as Blackin lying at the foot of Parkers Mountain and adjoining the lands of Felix Williams on the south side, Moton Lamb on the east, Robert Pritchett on the north, and Felix Williams on the west, it being that portion allotted to the said Rains & wife in division of said Blackin land & supposed to contain seven acres be the same more or less. Witnesseth the following signatures and seal this day and date above written. Fielding Rains Elizabeth Rains Greene County to wit. I Wm F Plunkett a justice of the peace for the county aforesaid in the state of Virginia do certify that Fielding Rains Sr whose name is signed to the writing above bearing date the 6th day of September 1859, has acknowledged the same before me in my county aforesaid. Given under my hand this 6th day of September 1859. Wm F Plunkett J.P. State of Virginia Greene County to wit. We Wm F Plunkett and Wm T Chapman, justices of the peace do certify that Elizabeth Rains wife of Fielding Rains Sr whose names are signed to the within writing bearing date the 6th day of September 1859 personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from her husband and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her, she the said Elizabeth Rains acknowledged the same to be her act and declared that she had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract the same.
