Will of William Shiflett, Greene Co., VA 1845 In the name of God Amen. I, WILLIAM SHIFLETT of the county of Greene and State of Virginia, beign weak in body, but sound in mind and memeory, knowing that it is appointed once for man to die, I therfore do make this my last will and Testament in the manner and form following (To wit) First, I commit my Soul into the hands of Almighty God, and my body to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Family and Executor hereafter named. Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife SUSANNAH SHIFLETT all my land that I possess north of Taylor's Branch. Item. All my land that I possess south of Taylor's Branch I have heretofore sold to my son DAVIS SHIFLETT for the just and full sum of thirty-five dollars. The above sume being less than the value of the land south of Taylor's Branch, the balance of it's value I give to my son DAVIS SHIFLETT for his share in full of my estate and the said thirty-five dollars that my son, DAVIS SHIFLETT owes me for the land that I sold him I desire that my executor see that it be collected and paid to James Simms, Esqr., Item. All the land that I possess north of Taylor's Branch, after the death of my beloved wife, I desire that it should be sold to the highest bidder and out of the money ensuing from said sale, I desire that the bond that I gave to James Simms, Esqr., should be finished paid and the residue of the money from the sale of my land, I desire to be equally divided among my children that I name. My son, DAVIS SHIFLETT, excepted because I have aimed to give him his share in the manner before mentioned. The following children are the children that I intend to name. RICHARD SHIFLETT, PATSEY MORRIS, SLATEN SHIFLETT, GARLAND SHIFLETT, FANNY MORRIS, WILLIAM SHIFLETT, POLLY MORRIS, and my daughter SALLY, I disire should have an equal share provided that she should marry to my liking or the liking of her mother and if not, I desire that my daughter, SALLY, should not have any more than the law allows such children as are cut offf from an equal share. As for my daughter CATA KNIGHT, I desire that my Executor collect and give her one dollar, then the balance of an equal share of the money ensuing from the sale of my land after the death of my beloved wife, should be equally divided between her children as they come of age as I do not intend for her husband WILLIAM KNIGHT to have any use of any of my estate but his wife, my daughter CATA'S children I desire that they shall have their mothers share. Item. I give to my beloved wife, one cow and calf and one heifer. Item. I give to my beloved wife all my household and kitchen furniture. Item. I give to my beloved wife four head of sheep. Item. I give to my daughter, SALLY three head of sheep in addition to her share in other cases. Item. I make and consitute my son WILLIAM SHIFLETT executor of this my last Will and Testiment and disallow, make and disannul all Wills and Testaments heretofore made by me, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.
