HARRIS [brackets, line breaks, & surname capitalization mine] Greensville Co., VA, Deed Book 1, pp. 246-47 26 Mar 1789 William FORGUSSON [FERGUSON] Sr. to Edward FORGUSSON [FERGUSON] Deed of Bargain & Sale This Indenture made this fourth day of October in the Year of our Lord Christ One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty Eight, Between William FERGUSSON Sen.r of the County of Greensville of the one part and Edward FORGUSSON of the same County of the other part, Witnesseth that the said William FORGUSSON Sen.r for and in Consideration of the sum of Nine pounds Current Money of Virginia to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, Hath granted, bargained, Sold, aliened, Enfeoffed, Released and Confirmed by these presents, doth grant, bargain and sell, unto the said Edward FORGUSSON his Heirs and Assigns for ever One certain Tract or parcel of Land, situate lying and being in the County of Greensville it being part of a Tract of Land, formerly the property of Rebecca WALL, and lying on the South side of the Fort Road, beginning at a Rock called the Coffin Stone Thence a South course to a Maple a Corner, Thence along the patent line a North course to the said Fort Road Thence along the said [page break] said fort Road to the beginning, containing by estimation One hundred and forty five Acres (be the same more or less) To have & to hold the said granted Land and premises, with their and every of their appurt', unto the said Edward FORGUSSON his Heirs and Assigns, to the only proper use & behoof of him the said Edward FORGUSSON his Heirs and Assigns forever And the said William FORGUSSON Sen.r for himself and his Heirs, doth covenant grant and agree to and with the said Edward FORGUSSON and his Heirs, that he and they shall and may forever from time to time and at all times forever, hereafter peaceably, and quietly hold and enjoy the said granted Land & premises free from all former Gifts, grants of Dower or any other incumbrance, except this reserve, I am to have by consent of the said Edward FORGUSSON my Life on the said Land, And the said William FORGUSSON Sen.r and his Heirs shall and will Warrant and for ever defend the said granted Land and Premises, with the appurt's unto the said Edward FORGUSSON his Heirs and Assigns, against the claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever.
