HARRIS [brackets, line breaks, & surname capitalization mine] Greensville Co., VA, Deed Book 1, p. 246 26 Mar 1789 Lewis GRIGG Deed of Emancipation Pursuant to the law, of nature, conscience and the Spirit of Religion & the Edict of America United in Congress as also An Act of toleration in Virginia I Lewis GRIGG of the County of Greensville do most chearfully transfer to the following Negroes (providentially in my possession) that which they have never forfeited me [underlined] nor dare I to arrogate or claim a Liberty from their present state of enslavement. Viz. Bridget, above fifty Years of Age, Judah sen.r supposed to be above that Age also. Goshen Twenty six Years of Age: Agga twenty Six and Judah jun.r a bout fourteen Years of Age. Such of the above Named Negroes, Bridget, Judah Sen.r Goshen, and Agga have an immediate right to and possession of freedom. The other Judah jun.r I wish to retain under my Guardianship and direction, till twenty five Years of Age, at which period She shall partake of the same immunity with the others from me, my Heirs, Executors &.ca This Deed is intended to include the premised, and above named Negroes with their future Offspring through out all generation as partakers of the same great and invaluable Libert. In Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and Affix my Seal this twenty Sixth of March One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty Nine.
