Deed of Trust - David Rideout to Robert K.Thacker
(Deed Book 8, page 314, Greensville Co.VA.)

This Indenture made this thirty first day of December in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two,Between David Rideout
of the County of Greensville and State of Va. of the one part and Robt.
K.Thacker of the said County & State of the other part. Witnesseth that
the said David Rideout for and in consideration of the sum of one 
dollar to him in hand paid, by the said Robt.K.Thacker at or before 
the ensealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is 
hereby acknowledged, have bargained, sold, aliened & confirmed and by
these presents, doth bargain, sell, alien and confirm unto the said
Robt.K.Thacker his heirs & assigns, all of my perishable property 
consisting of one horse, thirteen head of cattle, twenty five head of
hogs, one gun, three beds and furniture, with the balance of my house-
hold and kitchen furniture, ten barrels of corn, fifteen hundred pounds
of fodder, plantation utinsels etc. To have and to hold the said 
property in trust to said Robt.K.Thacker his heirs & assigns forever,
to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Robt.K.Thacker his
heirs & assigns forever, and the said David Rideout for himself his
heirs, Executors and administrators, doth covenant & agree to warrant
& forever defend the said property against the claim & claims of all &
every other person or persons whatsoever, unto him the said Robert K.
Thacker his heirs & assigns forever, In trust nevertheless and the true
intent and meaning thereof is that the said David Rideout is Justly
indebted to Benjamin B.Rideout in the sum of one hundred and sixty
Dollars & thirty cents, current money of Virginia on demand and being
willing and desirous to secure to the said Benjamin B.Rideout the
payment of his debt & interest as above mentioned, Hath made over the
above mentioned property, which he the said David Rideout now holds, to
the said Robt.K.Thacker as trustee for the purpose of secureing the 
said Benjamin B.Rideout. And it may & shall be Lawful for the said Robt.
K.Thacker by giving ten days public notice by advertisement to sell the
said property to the highest bidder for reddy money & pay unto the said
Benjamin B.Rideout his debt, interest & cost of recording this deed &
the over plus, if any to be returned to the said David Rideout. In
witness whereof we have hereunto set hands and seals this day & date
aforesaid.
