Tax Deed - E.L.Turner, Clerk to Mrs M.F.Rideout
(Deed Book 20, page 548, Greensville Co.VA.)

Whereas, On the 7th day of March 1891 the following described real
estate standing in the name of Eliza Rideout was reported to the Clerk
of the County Court of Greensville County by the Treasurer of 
Greensville County as delinquent on account of State Taxes for the year
1889 in the sum of $1.91 and whereas, on the 7th day of November 1892
after due advertisement as requirement by law, the Treasurer of 
Greensville County did offer for sale at public auction, at the front
of the Courthouse of Greensville County, the following described real
estate with purpose of paying the State Taxes and levies due thereon,
at which sale R.A.Short became the purchaser, having bid $1.91, that
being the highest price bid thereon; and whereas, in pursuance of the
order of the County Court of Greensville County, entered on the 4th
day of July 1898 the report of the Surveyors of Greensville County,
specifying the metes and bounds of the following described real estate,
and the names of the owners of the adjoining tracts or lots and giving
further description of the land to well identify the same, was recorded
in the Clerks office of Greensville County and whereas, the whole of 
the purchase money having been fully paid, and the two years required
by law having now elapsed, the R.A.Short who having assigned his right
to Mrs M.F.Rideout desires to have a deed for the same: Now Therefore, 
This deed made this 4th day of July 1898, between E.L.Turner, Clerk of
the County Court of Greensville County, party of the first part, and
Mrs M.F.Rideout, party of the second part. Witnesseth: That in 
consideration of the premises and in pursuance of Section 655 Code of
Virginia 1887 and all acts amendatory thereof, the party of the first
part doth grant unto the party of the second part with special 
warranty, the following described real estate: All of that certain 
tract or parcel of land known as the Eliza Rideout dower and containing
by survey made March 31,1897, 65 acres. Said plat is herewith recorded
as a part of this deed, said R.A.Short is herewith recorded as a part
of this deed, said R.A.Short consented in writing to this conveyance
being made to Mrs M.F.Rideout. Witness the following signature and seal.
